held the third Thursday of every month from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.
at the North
Town Grill, 3500 12th Ave. N. (right off I-29), Fargo.
Sept. 13 – New Technology: How to Reach Your Target Audience
Experts from H2M and Ludvik Herrera, director of new media for Publication
Services of America, will share how to use new technology to reach the
younger crowd. Plus, you can learn how to increase your Web site’s “google-ability” and find out more on the next new trend in Web sites,
blogospheres and social networking.
Oct. 18 – Writing For and About Children
FMPC member Roxane Beauclair Salonen, former newspaper reporter/editor, now
freelance writer/children’s author, will share steps she took along her
writing path, including the journey into the world of book publication.
Along with talking about her children's books, including the award-winning “P is for Peace Garden: A North Dakota Alphabet,” Roxane will reveal details
of her current project, a memoir about her childhood growing up on a
reservation in northeastern Montana. Come with questions and hear tips on
how to break into the competitive world of traditional book publishing.
Nov. 15 – Wing and a Prayer
Although this phrase is from a World War II song about a plane so badly
damaged after a mission it can barely reach its base, those words can
describe the haphazard way some companies plan conferences and workshops.
WDAY Radio personality Tracy Briggs will share some tips on pulling off a
major event based on her experience in helping organize three Honor Flights
to take World War II veterans to see the memorial erected in their honor in
Washington, D.C.
December – No meeting: Happy Holidays!
Jan. 17 – Yikes, We’re In the News and It’s Not Good News
No company wants a crisis that puts it in the news, but despite our best
efforts, stuff happens. Peggy Wheeldon, public affairs manager of the
Department of Veterans Affairs, and Dave Wahlberg, director, University News,
NDSU University Relations, will share tips on how they handled negative
publicity.
Feb. 21 – From Paperboy to Editor
New Forum editor Matt Von Pinnon will describe his rise from paperboy to
editor at North Dakota’s largest newspaper. He also will share his views on
the state of newspapers today and their role in the future.
March 20 – Communicating With a Non-Reader Like Me
Spider Johnk does it all. He’s an advertising and marketing creative
director, graphic artist, video producer, director and writer, to name a few of his roles. This self-described non-reader will share insights on the
marriage between word and image.
April 17 – From Turkeys to Publishers
After nearly a quarter century of working in the turkey industry and owning
their business, brothers John and Leon Ogroske bought WRITERS’ Journal, a
bimonthly publication that’s become the second most popular magazine in the
nation for writers. John Ogroske, who serves as editor, will share their
journey.
May 15 – 2008 Cheaper Than Therapy
Members will share how they keep projects on track; tips on how to
communicate with co-workers to get the information you need, when you need
it; and more.
