NDPC
hosts NFPW Conference
North Dakota Professional
Communicators, an affiliate of the National Federation of Press
Women, hosted NFPW's national conference in Bismarck, Sept. 19-21.
The 2002 conference's theme was "Discovering New Frontiers:
An Expedition to Excellence." About 150 communicators from
across the country learned from the professional development speakers,
honored members, networked with each other, and enjoyed North
Dakota history and hospitality.
Keynoting the conference
was Ann Wylie, of Wylie Communications Inc., a writing, training
and consulting firm in Kansas City, Mo. Selene Phillips, of Purdue
University, an expert on Native American culture and history,
performed her interpretation of Sakakawea, the woman credited
with guiding Lewis and Clark's expedition.
A conference highlight
was NDPC's third place honor in the state contest sweepstakes.
NDPC member Tammy Swift Sletten was runner-up in the individual
sweepstakes competition with four national awards.
The Communicator of
Achievement banquet had North Dakota doubly represented. Since
Jane Brandt of the Hebron Herald was unable to make it to the
NFPW conference in Indianapolis after the events of Sept. 11,
2001, she helped honor this year's nominees. Jo Ann Winistorfer
was NDPC's Communicator of Achievement representative. Winistorfer
is recently retired from North Dakota REC/RTC (now Dakota Living)
magazine.
